Volunteer
The Canton Historical Society is a private, tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization. We are not a town agency or financially supported by the Town of Canton. That's why public support is so crucial! A dedicated group of volunteers and interns helps us fulfill our mission by performing a variety of tasks in every department – and by promoting the CHS in the community.
Would you like to catalog books or objects, research a historical topic, garden, monitor the antiques and rare books market, perform administrative tasks, help keep our collections in order, assist at special events – or even clean... we have lots of dust. There might be a perfect CHS project just for you! In turn, you will have many opportunities like networking, making new friends, and building valuable work-related skills and experience. Learn more by calling us at 781-615-9040

Donate historic items
Look around your house, over the years many Canton families have held onto treasures from our past. Perhaps it is an old uniform or photos from the 1930's. The Canton Historical Society welcomes donations of Canton related ephemera and objects that help us tell the story of the families that have lived here. We can not promise that all items will be accepted, but we would love to take a look at your treasure and determine if it will have a lasting home in our collections. Leave a legacy
It’s never too early to plan ahead! Any time is a wonderful time to consider a gift to the Canton Historical Society. It shows your commitment to the future of this organization and its mission. Depending on your financial situation, you have many options including charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, retirement plans, life insurance policies, and bequests.
Bequests
CHS’s strong financial foundation has been built by the many people who have left bequests since the late-19th century. To make your bequest, you can provide the following language to your attorney for inclusion in your will or trust:
A specific bequest might read as follows:
“I give the sum of _____ dollars ($ ) to the Canton Historical Society in Canton, Massachusetts to be used or disposed of for its general charitable purposes.”
A residuary bequest might read as follows:
“I give ________ percent of the residue of my estate to the Canton Historical Society in Canton, Massachusetts to be used or disposed of for its general charitable purposes.”
And, if you wish your bequest to be applied to a specific purpose, the following example might be helpful:
“I give the sum of ______ dollars or (_____ percent of the residual of my estate) to the Canton Historical Society in Canton, Massachusetts to be used for the following purpose: (to be stated by the donor.)”
